The town is viewed as a dull area however, residents are in for a completely new look after the make-over that will run over the next 20 years.
Dacorum Borough Council has granted permission to Hightown Housing Association to build 158 new homes and three commercial units in the Maylands area of Hemel Hempstead.
Construction is to start in the summer this year.
Construction on a new energy-saving building at Haileybury Turnford school began last year in October 2020.
It will include 12 new classrooms, a large library and a sixth form seminar room.
Students will have it ready to use by Autumn this year.
Birchley Green is a shopping centre in Hertford which been failed to be re-developed for over three years.
Plans were confirmed to start in October last year 2020. but without official planning permission from the council.
Hertford Theatre is also set to undergo a transformation with new cinema screens, an auditorium and a riverside cafe-bar.
Work is to be start in August this year 2021 with the aim to complete it by 2023.
Work for the Hartham Leisure Centre re-development is also set to start in Spring this year.
A new two-storey extension is proposed on the footprint of the existing reception area and there will be some external work done.
A number of vacant buildings will be demolished to prepare for the main development of 146 new homes, shops and public spaces planned for the area too.
All plans are scheduled to start during Spring this year, but only after a multi-storey-car park in The Common is complete.
Plans have been agreed for a huge new expansion at Elstree Studios.
The two new sound stages will create 800 new jobs in the area over the next 50 years.
North Hertfordshire District Council have been granted permission for new homes and facilities to be built at the back of North Hertfordshire College’s campus on Cambridge Road, Hitchin.
The £12 million will go towards a new sports facility and 116 new homes will be built in a residential area of Hitchin.
Construction is expected to begin this year.
The sports facilities will open in the next academic year (2022) during the Autumn term.
A number of two, three and four-bedroom houses will be created in St James park, Bishop’s Stortford.
A new primary and secondary school will also be built, along with a local centre with a selection of shops for enjoying village life, an employment park and a care home.
All of this will be accessible via a network of footpaths and cycleways.
Welwyn Garden City
A development of 128 new one and two-bedroom apartments is set to be made available for rent and shared ownership in Welwyn Garden City.
The site is opposite the Shredded Wheat building, with the homes for rent going to people in housing need and nominated by the council.
Hightown will aim to start construction this year, and completed by 2022.
